Making Spirits BRIGHT!

My daughter, Chelsea, came home for Thanksgiving all geared up to start the holiday festivities.  So, as soon as the turkey was gobbled up, she was on a mission to get the Christmas tree.  So off we went!  We bought our tree this year from a cute little tree farm in Millis, Massachusetts called Deerfield Tree Farm.  I love off-the-beaten path places like this.

Being a crafty girl, Chelsea also wanted to make some fun snow globes make with canning(mason) jars filled with snow and evergreens.

These holiday decorations are so cute and simple to make!  Ingredients: mason jars, fake snow, miniature evergreens, glue gun and perhaps a few small star toppers!

Every year I host a little crafting event at my home for a few of my girlfriends.  I love paper crafts, so we made holiday gift tags.  So..cute!   These little tags are so easy to make. Throw on some holiday music and it’s hard not to get into the holiday spirit! It’s nice to craft with crafty friends because you can exchange creative ideas!

The girls and I spent most of our time crafting but also had to sneak in a few treats!  First we enjoyed a little snowman cheese ball appetizer.  So cute, heh?

Kraft featured this recipe and I thought it was way too fun.  You can adjust the fat in this recipe by using light or low fat cream cheese and reduced fat cheddar.  Find the recipe here!   Of course, I offered a sweet treat too. Although the recipe I used had a cup of pumpkin in it, it was far from nutritious.  But, hey, it’s the holidays, right?  Check out the pumpkin brownies I served.  These truly will put a smile on your face and perhaps even make you giggle.  Yup, they are that good.  Check out the recipe here!

And to make the season even more merry and bright, Russ and I took our boys to the Nantucket Stroll this weekend!  The holiday stroll  is a GREAT way to get into the joyous spirit.  Nantucket is a small island off the coast of Massachusetts.  The old cobblestone roads and architecture, make you feel like you truly are back in time.  Our family visits Nantucket every August and this year we decided to return for a little holiday fanfare!

To me, the Nantucket stroll is like taking a beautiful island and dressing it up like one big holiday tree.  Even the lighthouses get into the holiday spirit.

Walking the beach in the winter time is so peaceful to me.  This weekend, we stumbled upon a mom and daughter scalloping for their lunch. How cool is that?  This is yet another activity to add to my bucket list!  I love scallops. Do you?

I love the general spirit in Nantucket on stroll weekend.  Everyone seems so joyful and  happy to be on this quaint little festive island. Even the fancy carolers come out and sing their hearts out!

And the boats celebrate the season too!

And with all the holiday indulgences, even when we are away from home, Russ and I start the day with a brisk morning run. How do you balance indulgences with exercise during the holiday season?
