IBS Awareness Month Events 2023

Hello Everyone!

April is IBS Awareness Month and I have a couple of upcoming events and updates I would like to share with you.

First up, Tuesday Night IBS will provide a wonderful sponsored webinar on IBS on World IBS Day, April 19, 2023. The topic is IBS Updates: Myths, Mimickers and the Patient Journey.

Hear from Darren Brenner MD from Northwestern, Megan Riehl PsyD from Michigan Medicine, and yours truly! This webinar has been generously sponsored by QOL Medical, Ardelyx, Salix Pharmaceuticals, metaMe health, Schar Gluten Free, Mahana and Modify Health–and is complementary to patients and practitioners.

You can register here!

Additionally, I will be hosting an #IBelieveinyourStory yoga fundraiser. All funds raised from the ($35) ticket price will go directly to fund IBS research at University of Michigan. The yoga event will be led by Carla Ciampa, an amazing certified yoga instructor and will take place on April 29th in Norfolk, Massachusetts. We have about 11 tickets left for this event. Fody foods and BelliWelli will supply some fun low FODMAP giveaway swag for all attendees. Let’s hang out (and get a little zen) together. Learn more about + register for this event here.

As an IBS advocate, part of the work I do is to bring the patient voice to GI Meetings to share the patients lived experience (with their permission, of course!) Last year we shared art, prose and poetry that depicted the patient’s IBS experience. As a continued part of this mission, we are collecting short video clips from any interested patients that will be compiled into a 3 minute video that will be shown to top experts in the field of gastroenterology across the nation–gastroenterologists, GI psychiatrists and GI expert dietitians in May during Digestive Disease week in Chicago. If you’d like to provide a video clip, please learn how to do this here!

And lastly, sorry that I have been a bit MIA! I have been working on my next book, titled, Mind your Gut: The Science-Based Whole-body Guide to Living well with IBS with my incredible and brilliant, co-author, Dr. Megan Riehl, a world renowned GI psychologist. This book will be available for pre-order Fall/Winter 2023 with a publishing date of March 2024–be on the lookout! I am really proud of this project that Dr. Riehl and I have thoughtfully and scientifically put together!

That’s all for now! Be well, my friends.
