I was reading my Oprah magazine before bed one night this week and found a very interesting article. Ya know, an ‘aha’ moment article.
In the article, Oprah mentioned a time that she was betrayed by a family member…relaying how difficult this was for her. In reflection,Oprah concluded that although that was a difficult situation to go through, it is much worse when we betray ourselves.
When you have the chance to protect yourself and you choose not to do so….
I think women in general are really good at betraying themselves. Kids first, husband first, and well…you got it, Mom last. It’s a fine line between being nice, thinking of other’s needs first and completely discounting your own desires, wants and needs.
This year as I head into 2013, I am up to my eyeballs in work. The good thing is that I love my work. But, because I am so busy I am realize in some ways I am betraying myself and perhaps my family a bit too.
So…I decided I would stop taking on new clients for a while until work settles to a more manageable level. It really was an easy decision….
….once I thought of it!
I realize there is a fine line between being kind and generous and accommodating others needs way beyond your own. Don’t get me wrong, I am not encouraging selfishness, we all need to give and share of ourselves….but just stop and make sure you take care of yourself along your journey. So….although I have a boatload of writing to do this weekend, I am taking some time to enjoy a few of my favorite things, people, activities and smoothies!
A few quotes to kick off the weekend!
Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.
Lucille Ball
You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy.
