Thanks for your comment. I think it is finally getting some traction in the GI circles--and raising awareness is important.

Thanks Kate! I always find your "science-y" posts interesting! I knew nothing about APD, but I definitely identify with this part: "having a flat stomach in the morning that progressively distends as the day goes on." It's tolerable though and I guess would be considered "low grade."
Have you ever done a post about IBS and Menopause? I would be interested in reading your thoughts and the current scientific take on women who's symptoms change during peri-menopause or menopause.

Kate, thank-you so much for looking further into this! I thought I was imagining things when I saw the email in my inbox. I met with my GI team recently and left feeling deflated (no pun intended) because I felt dismissed, though somewhat kindly. Both the gastroenterologist and psychologist essentially weren't familiar with this, and this was the same with my pelvic floor physical therapist. When they learned more, they said there's not a known treatment. My GI doctor has been focusing on reducing gas, which is under control, but I don't believe it's the cause of my symptoms after extensive testing, a low FODMAP diet, pelvic floor physical therapy for another condition (EXTENSIVE diaphragmatic breathing), practicing restorative yoga regularly for years before onset of symptoms, and continuing to do so now, and core strength from Pilates and physical therapy, the extreme bloat persists even with just drinking water. I feel caught in the loop mentioned when the symptoms of APD are causing stress.

I'm not feeling much hope, as I've brought myself to multiple doctors and am not being connected with a plan of care that's addressing my concerns, and not sure where else to look.

Still, I'm happy you're a reliable source shedding light on this condition, so thank-you for doing this. Maybe it could help others find treatment, or maybe one day that line about bloating being historically difficult to treat will become obsolete.
