In reply to <a href="https://blog.katescarlata.com/2014/02/03/winners/#comment-244295">Mary La Jeunesse</a>.

Hi Mary, my initial SIBO episode was back in 2003 and I was treated with the antibiotics for 7 days. That did the trick along with periodic probiotics for nearly 10 years! I was free of major symptoms until 2013 after antibiotics for another infection. This past time I needed 2 rounds of rifaximin to feel better. I have found that if I start getting sibo symptoms and pull back on FODMAPs and add a probiotic--I can abort a full blown SIBO event--but this is just my personal experience--not a research study ...and since we are all individuals and have individual reasons for developing sibo--this approach may not work for someone else. Certainly avoiding antibiotics is a good thing...but avoiding antibiotics may not be possible in some SIBO cases.

Kate,
I too have lost my ileocecal valve - right hemicolectomy due to volvulus twist. i am reluctant to try the antibiotic route as it seems that it will be unending. How did you beat back the SIBO with no valve?
Thank you. Mary
