My husband Russ and I are runners. We have been running together on the weekends for almost 30 years. We have decided to run for Team in Training in a fundraising effort to help find a cure for blood cancers. We are running the Lake Placid marathon this summer.
I have always found running for charities to be inspirational. This event will be my third run for Team in Training. My first run was the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll marathon! What a blast that was and I felt like I could check a box on my bucket list as a marathon was a long term goal for me. Russ and I also ran the Bermuda Half Marathon together as well. If you need a motivator to stay in shape, consider running or walking for charity. You won’t regret it.
Because we live near Boston and the winter has been ridiculously cold, we need to bundle up. Make sure your bring along a warm hat and toasty gloves.
You most important gear however is your running shoes, so spend the extra and get a solid pair like mine!
Running or any other hard core cardio can create free radicals (harmful molecules that can lead to disease, aging, inflammation) in your body, so be sure fuel yourself post workout with good antioxidants such as Vitamin C rich fruits. Russ and I enjoy a delicious smoothie. Simply blend frozen mixed berries, 1/2 a frozen banana, scoop of Greek yogurt, a few mint leaves (if you have them) and water as necessary to thin to desired consistency. Really, any frozen fruits work well so remember to purchase some at the grocery store so you’ll be good to go when you need a refreshing smoothie!
